Annual Event

Trash Bash

Make a difference, one piece of trash at a time.

About Trash Bash

Every August, the Muskegon River Trash Bash is an opportunity for residents and visitors of all ages to have an immediate and visible impact on the river, its tributaries, and the thousands of acres of land that surround it.

The 2,725 square miles of the Muskegon River watershed contains approximately 94 connecting streams, and travels over 216 miles through nine counties from Higgins Lake to Lake Michigan in Muskegon. Throughout the month of August, teams of every size throughout the watershed give their time to making the Muskegon River healthier and more beautiful.

Won’t you join us for Trash Bash this coming summer?

Ways to Get Involved

Business Owners

Organize a team for your staff to build cohesion or encourage employees to volunteer throughout the month. You can also provide material support through prizes or sponsorship to help make the event successful.

Spread the Word

Trash Bash is a watershed-wide event. Help us reach as many people in the watershed as possible by sharing information with your networks, community groups, and social media followers.

Volunteer Your Time

Help with planning, team support, and community engagement in June, July, and September. Your time and energy behind the scenes make a significant difference in the event’s overall success.

Organize or Join a Team

Form a team with friends, family, coworkers, or neighbors, or sign up solo to make an impact. Teams of any size are welcome to participate and help clean up the watershed.

Year-Round Stewardship

The best way to support the Muskegon River is to care for it year-round. Support healthy riparian vegetation, advocate for well-maintained trash bins, and pick up litter whenever you’re out.

Monetary & Material Support

Promote your business by donating giveaway items for teams or provide monetary donations that support behind-the-scenes work and essential supplies for participants throughout the event.
